Creating slide shows

SlideShow lets viewers cycle through a series of images by clicking a link. Each click displays the next image in the series.

The following rules apply to images used for the SlideShow action:

  • They must be the same size in pixels.
  • They must be in the same folder as the starting image.
  • They can be either GIF or JPEG images, but you cannot mix GIF and JPEG images in the same slide show.
  • They must be named in sequence, starting with 01 and ending with the .gif or .jpg extension. For example, the starting GIF image would be named 01.gif, and the others would be named 02.gif, 03.gif, and so on.

  • You cannot have more than one SlideShow action and SlideShowAuto action on the same page.

    To apply the SlideShow action:

1 Click the Layout tab to switch to Layout view.

2 Select the image you want to make the starting image for the slide show.

3 Click the More tab in the Image Inspector, and enter a unique name in the Name text box, such as First Picture. This name does not have to be the same as the name of the file. For example, although the file might be named 01.jpg, you could enter any descriptive name in the Image Inspector.

4 Set up the action trigger as described in Setting up actions.

5 Choose Actions Plus > SlideShow in the Actions palette.

6 From the Base Image menu, choose the starting image you named in step 3 and which will be replaced with the rest of the images in the slide show.

7 For # of Images, enter the total number of images in the slide show.

8 Select any of the following playback options:

  • Loop repeats the slide show after the final image is shown.
  • Play Backwards displays the images from the last to the first. This option lets you create forwards and backwards links for the slide show.
  • Palindrome plays the slide show back and forth. To use this option, you must select Loop as well.

  • Leaving all three options unselected plays the slide show a single time.
